Wow! That is a tough one. I’m must say there are times when I don’t feel very respectable at all! ;0)

Seriously I am very proud to be an engineer. I’m proud because I have studied hard and worked hard to get to where I am in my career now, but also because I am proud that the work I do makes the world a better place. That for me is what makes engineers respectable. We spend our days designing products which make peoples lives easier. In my case that is designing better joint replacements to reduce pain for people with long term back pain. It is a disabling condition and costs individuals and the country millions of pounds in treatment and lost working days. It is the impact we have on society that makes us respectable I think.

Firstly, I just want to say that as long as you work hard and try your best you will always be respected in any career that you choose, and you should always be proud of your achievements.

Engineering is a hard subject (but also A LOT of fun), so regardless as to whether you choose to train via the academic or the apprenticeship route, your status as a qualified engineer will gain you respect from everyone!

Engineering is a very rewarding career choice, as you are always making an impact on society with the work you do. Knowing that I am helping people and making a difference is the main reason that I love my job!

Being an engineer itself is a respectable thing for me. Its not that everyday is a happy day. Some day you wont even feel like an engineer or most of the days. Nonetheless, Without knowing it, everyone, can be an engineer the moment they are trying to design or make something helpful out of basic things.
According to me, the most respectable thing about being an engineer in a professional way is that you get to provide your successful results to others as such making everyone’s life easier. Especially in the health department, I feel more respectable as i have the opportunity to help improve the management of several health related problems and as such save lives.

Oooo that’s a tough one! I think people associate engineering with hard work so you get a lot of respect that way but also in the research area we publish our work in Journals and the better your work is the more credible the journal you can publish in. So that is a way of directly measuring your respect I guess.

For me, engineering is all about helping people. Everything we do as engineers is to improve peoples lives and there’s a lot of respect in that.
It might seem quite obvious how the work an engineer in the health zone helps people, but all engineers in all other zones are still helping you. That’s one of the reasons I like being an engineer so much!
